About
Anna Gadzhikurbanova is a ceramic artist and potter originally from Russia. With a background in psychology and movement practices, she began her ceramic journey in Russia before moving to Tokyo. There, she was profoundly influenced by Japanese aesthetics and the traditions of ceramic art. Immersing herself in pottery, Anna studied at local art schools and connected with both Japanese and Russian artists.
Afterward, she spent three years in Austin, USA, where she further developed her work in her home studio. During this time, she also completed a year-long residency at the Dougherty Arts Center and took part in a group exhibition concluding the residency.
Influenced by her interest in biology and human psychology, Anna explores fundamental principles of emergence, development, spreading and interactions of living organisms and natural structures as well as human ideas and emotions. Fascinated by the parallels between these processes across different scales of the natural world, she observes them closely and translates them into biomorphic clay forms and glaze patterns.
